November 13-14, 2015, an annual event VII Youth Congress for internships results took place in Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU). The congress purpose was to give students of different specialties an opportunity to present reports about their internships. More than 250 students attended the 2-day Congress.
Every year the Congress develops and expands its activities. This year many changes appeared; for the first time the congress was held in 2 days and took place in the new building of Moscow State University –«Lomonosov». This year, the Congress was officially given the status of an international event, attended by representatives of 25 universities from all over Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
The first day, November 13, a grandiose opening of the Congress took place. Awelcoming speech was given by the deputy Vice-rector of MSU - Pavlov S., deputy dean of Geological Faculty of MSU Krylov O. and SPE Russia and Caspian regional director Ablaev A..
Then the floor was given to representatives of sponsors of the Congress: the platinum sponsor Schlumberger, gold sponsor Halliburton, and sponsor of LLC "Institute of Geotechnologies". The representatives spoke about companies' structure and relationships with students.
Within the plenary section Akhmanov G., Director of Marine Geology and Geophysics UNESCO-MSUEducational and Scientific Center, spoke about the formation and development of a unique long-term and multi-disciplinary international practice for students of marine specialties "Training-through-research (Floating University)". Then the floor was given to Cherniy M., an expert from «Paradigm Geophysical», who introduced a new initiative industrial placement "Moving" for freshman and sophomore students majoring in geology.
After the solemn part of the Congress a roundtable discussion on internships of students of Oil&Gas specialties took place. The event was attended by representatives of Schlumberger, Halliburton, JSC "NOVATEK", JSC "Yamal LNG", the staff of Moscow State University, Gubkin RSOGU and USTU, as well as by representatives of SPE Moscow office and SPE Student Chapters of Lomonosov MSU, Gubkin RSOGU, St. Petersburg State University, TSOGU, USTU and Lomonosov NArFU.
The second day of the Congress was all about students’ reports that were divided into five different sections: Exploration and production of fossil fuels, Geology, Geography, Ecology and environmental management, industrial placement. The industrial placement section was conducted within the Congress for the first time.
Students' reports were evaluated by jury members from different scientific and industrial organizations: Halliburton, LLC "Institute of Geotechnologies", PJSC "Gazprom", Federal Supervisory Natural Resources Management Service, Lomonosov MSU, Gubkin RSOGU, People's Friendship University, Vernadsky Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Geography of Russian Academy of Sciences.
After all student reports, students were invited to participate in traditional quiz «Geomind» conducted annually. Students were actively answering questions about geology and geophysics prepared by the Organizing Committee.
Upon completion of the quiz, an award ceremony was held. Popov M., business development managerof Halliburton / Landmark, participated in the award ceremony process. The winners and awardees became students from different universities: Moscow State University, St. Petersburg State University, Gubkin RSOGU, Peoples' Friendship University, Tomsk Polytechnic University and the Russian State Social University. These students were awarded with prizes from the Gold Sponsor of the Congress - Halliburton. Besides, winners and awardees of “Exploration and production of fossil fuels”and “Geology” student sections, were given an explicit preference to be accepted for the 2016 summer internship in Halliburton.
The organizing committee expresses gratitude to all Congress sponsors, Lomonosov Moscow State University rectorate and administration of Geological faculty for their support and cooperation throughout the event preparation.
The Congress held an informal atmosphere, what let students from different universities easily communicate with each other. Also, it is worth noting that the Congress was attended by representatives of 9 SPE student chapters from Russia and Caspian region: Gubkin RSOGU, St. Petersburg State University, TSOGU, USTU, Lomonosov NArFU, KFU, NSU, MGRI-RSGPU and KazNTU.
The main goal of the Congress was reached; all set tasks were fully implemented. The organizing committee received a lot of positive feedback about the organization process of the Congress. A decision made to conduct VIII Youth Congress for internships results in November 2016.
